AIPEX Alexa Device WiFi Locker Guide
AIPEX Alexa Device WiFi Locker Guide
The WiFi locker provides the
ability to store multiple WiFi credentials in the AIPEX Virtual Concierge
management platform. This feature allows:
- A device to work at multiple locations. For example, home (for initial setup and testing) and your vacation rental property.
- A device to move seamlessly between locations, without requiring the Echo device to go through the device setup process each time.
WiFi configurations can be added
at either the AIPEX account level, or the property level. An important concept
to understand is that all WiFi configurations that are added are all active and
available to establish a connection to the internet at the same time. For
example, let’s say you have a property and it has one WiFi configuration that
has been added at the property level, and that 3 Wifi configurations have also
been added at the account level. This means that a device associated with your
property will have 4 sets of Wifi credentials available simultaneously. If any
one of these WiFi networks is within range, the device will connect to it and get
online.
Additional consideration:
- Any WiFi network names (aka SSIDs) that you set up under a given AIPEX account must be unique. WiFi passwords can be the same across WiFi configurations that you define, but if you define 2 WiFi configurations with the same network name, only the last one will be active.
Moving Devices Between Physical Locations
Having multiple WiFi
configurations allows a device to move to a new location without requiring it
to go through the device setup process. Note that the new WiFi credentials must
be pushed to the device before moving it to the new network. In other words,
the device won’t know about the new network name and password if it is not
online to receive them.
As an example of using a device
across multiple locations, let’s say you set up a device at home for testing,
but you will be eventually moving it to your vacation rental property. In this
case, add both your home WiFi configuration as well as your vacation rental’s
WiFi configuration to the WiFi locker while your device is online at home. Then
you can move the device back and forth between home and your vacation rental
and the device will automatically connect at either location.
Account WiFi Configurations
Account WiFi Configurations can
be found under Account > Settings.
WiFi Settings is the last tab. When
you add a WiFi configuration here, it will be available to all devices across
all the properties under your account.

Note:
- Wifi configurations will be automatically applied to all devices that are online under the account at the time the wifi config is added. You will receive an email report providing the results.
- You can use the Re-sync button to push the wifi configurations to your devices in the event that an initial attempt fails due to device(s) being offline. Note: Hitting the Re-sync button will apply all the WiFi configurations that have been added at the account level AND the property level to all of the online devices for each respective property under the account.
- If the one of the WiFi configurations that you previously added changes their WiFi SSID and/or password, just delete the old configuration and create a new one by entering the new credentials.
Property WiFi Configurations
WiFi credentials can also be set
up at the property level under Custom Content within the Property Information
dropdown. Property-level WiFi configurations are only available to devices
associated with that property.
You can add a new wifi
configuration or select, via a dropdown menu, the WiFi configuration you would
like to view the password of. All wifi configurations that have been defined at
the property level are available within the dropdown list.

This button allows
you to add a WiFi configuration at the property level. Any device associated
with the property will have all of the WiFi configurations that have been
defined available to support a connection to the internet.
This button
allows you to hide the currently visible WiFi Network from the WiFi Network
window. It does not currently delete the WiFi Network. All WiFi networks remain
within the system and remain active. The WiFi Locker is connected to the
account’s Amazon Provisioning Account. To remove WiFi configurations from the
WiFi locker, log in with the Provisioning account and follow the instructions here,
logging in with your Provisioning account. This action will not remove the WiFi
configurations from devices that had previously received a push from the
locker. Currently, to remove all WiFi configurations from a device you can go
through the device setup process.
This button
allows you to see the WiFi password associated with the WiFi configuration currently
visible in the WiFi Networks pull-down selection.
This button syncs all configurations within the WiFi locker to the device. You can use it to push WiFi credentials to a device that may have been offline when credentials were added to the platform and thus unable to receive WiFi credentials. Note: Hitting the Sync button will apply all of the WiFi configurations that have been added at both the property level as well as the account level down to the online device(s) associated with that property.
